Celine S/S 2013

Phoebe Philo’s SS13 show for Celine was a bit of a departure for her. Not has hard edged and structured as her previous collections, this Celine woman is still effortlessly, impossibly chic and cool, but in a not so uptight way, in fact one can say she has taken a turn to the” super chill”; loose, loungey and fluid (adjectives not normally used to describe Celine) pretty much sum up this collection. This season Philo introduced some new concepts: raw edges, mesh, a twisted cape”ish” detail that worked because of the Asian sensibility (simple, clean, and calm). Also, high waisted trousers which were tapered but loose and easy at the same time, tunics with great slouchy pants, voluminous dresses and easy trench coats were standouts. The accessories were interesting (I do not advocate fur so the fur shoes confused me. I did not understand them at all, nor do I see them as commercial or sellable vehicles, nor do I get the reasoning behind them) aside from that, the bags which are a huge part of the Celine selling machine were once again beautiful, wearable and architectural. There were 2 special accessory pieces that reflected this new chilled out and not so serious attitude; the gorgeous lunch bag clutch and the shoes which were a tromp l’oleil of a bare foot with painted nails. Very clever, very playful and very accessible .
