Cassio Vasconcellos Fine Art Photography

I discovered him during the this year Art Basel in Miami and I immediately fell in love with Brazilian artist Cassio Vasconcellos large scale photography montage especially his airport ones. As a playful game, all images were made from hundreds of different photos, clicked on numerous flights, and thoroughly worked together create landscapes that get confused between the real and the imaginary. Each piece is between 3 to 12 meters wide (10 to 40ft) and they look amazing! Below are some of my favorite but check his site for more!

Artist Statement:

As a playful game, all images were made from hundreds of different photos, clicked on numerous flights, and thoroughly worked together create landscapes that get confused between the real and the imaginary.

Collective is the result of a need to share a critical view of the artist, who through his peculiar point of view raises important issues such as the occupation of the planet, the existing macro industrial scheme to supply the needs of society, the occupation of land , among others.

Through this series, Cássio aims to address forcefully – from small to large scale – the theme of globalization and the explosion of consumer goods, especially in large cities. In the Airport image, for example, this representation is evidenced by changes in society after the emergence of aviation. Composed of over a thousand photographs taken at various airports in Brazil and the United States, the work presents itself as an immense communicative portal of the relationship between humanity and its new way to interact with time and space.

In parallel, Arizona impressed by the amount of land that is appropriate in the wilderness for a monumental aircraft boneyard. There are hundreds of them, leading the viewer to dialogue on the future of physical occupation of the planet, since the number of aircraft continues to grow beyond measure. It first looks like a plush carpet, but as the visitor approaches, he comes across a large conglomerate of people, thousands of them together, forming a giant human pattern. And to feed so many people, Ceasa comes represent the largest warehouse of Latin America, from where virtually all agricultural food products that cover the greater São Paulo. Impressive in scale, those that make up this great mosaic show the wide and complex food distribution logistics operation in a big city. It is through this spirit and ambivalent language that Cássio dialogue on the planet and humanity, the physical space and time, creating an important consideration for our future.
