    Slinkachu was NOT the first artist to use miniature figures in photographs like this. Just because you may have been aware of his work first does not mean that other artists’ work came later. In fact, Boffoli apparently started his work as far back as 2003. And other artists like Audrey Heller did work with figures (not with food but with things like crayons) back in the 90′s.

    Really wonderful series. So fun an playful and also beautifully shot. Amazing work.

The very first one to work with the concept of shooting miniatures into real life sets was London based artist Slinkachu. Since then, we have sen it in print campaigns (Ben & Jerry’s in the NY subways right now) and plenty of other media. A tad different but in the same vein, this series, called Big Appetites by artist Christopher Boffoli presents miniature figures posed in real food environments, “referencing both a cultural fascination with tiny things as well as an American enthusiasm for excess, especially in the realm of food.”

 

The photographs are being exhibited at Winston Wächter Fine Art NYC until 24th of August.
