These gorgeously laser cut maps, made by Below The Boat, exude a kind of craftsmanship that is declining. You certainly don’t have to be a cartographer to appreciate the exquisitely hand painted Baltic Birch. These are the kind of pieces we could see being passed down from generation to generation. At almost $300 a pop, they are well worth it. An interesting point to note is that the pieces look antique with gorgeous patina, from the paint, and etching. Reminders of the depths and contours of our oceans are always crucial in the wake of natural and human made disasters.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Seriously….These are going for $150-300?? I’m no art appraiser, but I’m inclined to say that compared with art pieces of similar size, material, whatever, that these are a STEAL.
This is definitely art of a kind, but clearly they run this as a business which doesn’t market/price based on their reputation/skills/experience as heavily as artists do; maybe that accounts for the difference (this is only my speculation and opinion.)
