Beautiful Transformation Of A Hamburg Bunker

The air raid shelter in Hamburg’s Ottensen was built in 1939 as a Bunker. Architects from Stephen Williams Associates envisioned to transform the ultimately industrial space into a light-filled, modern rental, where concrete floors and insets of bronze and marble add an air of elegance.

One can find furniture treasures from Arne Jacobsen, Eero Saarinen or Cassina in the interior that was designed as an open-plan living space – the bedroom is separated from the main room with a crittall-style glass. Short walk from the river, the apartment is one out of 10 flats that have been accommodated inside the Bunker.
