Balmain S/S ’14

Overalls,  power-shoulders, over-sized gold buttons and chunky jewelery accents? Does anyone else feel like watching Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection has zapped them back to a previous era?

Judging by the commentary, the answer is yes. This collection almost had an air of a Gucci meets Chanel collaboration and though the quilted and loose-armed bombers, houndstooth sweaters and heavy gold chains were overtly reminiscent of the 80’s and 90’s, we’re digging Olivier Rousteing’s inspiration for this showing. While making it clear the nostalgia of the iconic fashion house is succeeding, remnants such as biker-detailed jeans and some elements of classic Balmain construction lingered. Balmain has definitely become one of Paris’ most classy labels; the trumpet skirts and wearable dresses were evidence of that.
