Balenciaga S/S ’14

Crisp, clean whites and soft, feminine pinks were aflutter as Alexander Wang sent his much anticipated second Balenciaga collection down the who’s-who-lined runway, and let’s just say it was worth the wait. After a well received first collection for the epic fashion house, it looks as though Wang respectfully pushed ever so slightly the line of demarcation between paying homage and entering new territory. This latest showing seemed a touch more whimsical, with its floral prints and edgy silhouettes (tulip-shaped peplum pants and short structured skirts). The strong shoulders in the biker-esque jackets, the muscle tees, and even the slightly sporty striped tops were all clear evidence of Wang’s hand. “The idea was to start strong and austere, and let that unravel,” Wang commented. “I want to bring ease into the DNA and codes of the house that I’m working with.”
