Atrium in DUMBO, a touch of southern France

Atrium restaurant dumbo

Atrium is the brand new restaurant opened in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The former restaurant housed in this space, Governor, was forced to close after the hurricane Sandy. The atmosphere is warm, bright and airy, with floor to ceiling windows, string lights, handcrafted banquettes and wood floors: the light and the wood give the space, designed by Hecho Inc., a comfortable and relaxing mood, as if inspired by a courtyard. Cherry on top is the view of the Brooklyn Bridge Park from the mezzanine, and the open kitchen, where the seasonal food for a market-driven menu is prepared with love.

Three partners are running this new cool place-to-be, Laurent Kalkotour, the executive chef, who grew up in Aix-en-Provence, south France, the beverage director, Alexander LaPratt and the general manager Leslie Affre. The menu, influenced by Kalkotour French roots, includes Octopus with Fennel and Nicoise Olives; Pork Belly with Peaches, Pickled Honshimeji, Corn and Mint; Free Range Chicken with Spiced Eggplant, Yogurt, Harissa and Pine Nuts. And for dessert, Baked Plum Crumb with Goat’s Milk Ice Cream and Sweet Corn Panna Cotta with Jalapeno Corn Bread. Enjoy!
