Remember the beautiful series of photographs, titled “Stranger in the Glass Box“, that Dior collaborated with Chinese photographer Quentin Shih to produce back in 2008 (see here)? Well, it’s time for round-two. This summer, for the reopening of the Dior boutique in Shanghai, the house of Dior called upon Shih once again to produce a [...]
Los Angeles based indie-pop band Foster the People has definitely got my attention with their summertime essential “Pumped Up Kicks”. Possessing a sound that embodies the beyond catchy hook creativity of MGMT and the melodiousness of Pete Bjorn and John using the whistle flawlessly throughout their composition, I would be surprised not to find that [...]
Visionaire pays tribute to the iconoclastic genius of Alexander McQueen who left his definitive mark on the design world of the 90s and 2000s. But it’s more than just a tribute: this special issue is published following a planned project between the designer and Visionaire, which never came to fruition.
As usual I am not a super fan personally of the Dolce and Gabbana collection, but their Fall 2010 lookbook definitely deserves a mention. A simple production with great styling and the right mood for to portray the leopard rainbow of looks. I love the Frida Kahlo/Spanish influence in the styling.
Ribbonesia’ is the art project which artist and illustrator Baku Maeda has been working on. As an artist, ‘BAKU’ has been using brush and pen as extension of his hands and imagination. Paris- based Caravan Palace can’t hide its New Orleans-style heritage anymore than Donald Trump can hide his hair piece. The French electronic-swing group is drenched in early 20′s through 40′s jazz features and pushes a wallflower to get up and do the jitterbug–or perhaps, the boogie-woogie. I speak from personal experience, of course.
Inspired by a visit to a museum in Southern Vietnam graphic designer Tiana Vasilijev created and photographed this beautifully handmade typeface using marbling ink, water and a tray. What is fantastic about the result of this project is that it maintains legibility while achieving just enough abstraction.
Unusual materials, unique shapes, attention to detail and a good size are a few of the distinct characteristics of Vice and Vanity, an avant-gardist jewelery label from Singapore. Their (latest) art deco inspired collection is called Oni: a sumptuously eclectic mix of textures/materials/colors that make these neck pieces a must have!
This upcoming musical duo got hitched and headed for the Atlantic on their trusted sailboat: an 8 month journey, which would result in the creation of ‘Marathon’ and a few other breezy hits. As the East Coast winds propelled their sails, Alaina Moore and her husband Patrick Riley propelled the perfect seaside tunes.
Swedish artist/photographer Anders Krisar has interesting fascination with realistic textures and representing human psychology. I am really interested in finding out more about the emotional aspect behind his corporeal works, which all have a very eery vibe to them.
Through a layer of custom blown glass Litill makes these gorgeous terrariums with exotic and fresh colors using real plants. You can custom your own color scheme and shape of the vessel…
Time flies when you’re getting famous, not speaking from experience or anything but I’m sure Mike Posner can relate. It’s only been some months since he finished school at Duke University and began his full-fledged pursuit of a music career. First signing a deal with J Records then releasing his single Cooler than me (covered [...]
