Istanbul Fashion Week F/W 2010 Runway Review

The young designers runway was by far the most interesting part of  the catwalk presentation through Istanbul Fashion Week. It was there that we saw Istanbul’s bright shinning and fast rising star, Zeynep Tosun, Maragoni BA and MA graduate. The 28 year old designer learned her couture from working at Alberta Ferretti where designing meant constructing. There was no sketching, it was all highly detailed and intricate construction that led to a garments consideration as part of the next collection.

These photos hardly do the Zeynep Tosun’s collection any justice, as the true workmanship is only really clear in the touch. You will be hearing and seeing much more on this designer very soon.

Simay Bulbul was the opening collection for the first young designers runway. Its ethnic influence felt very appropriate. Everything that mattered in this collection was truly in the styling, which was both on trend with the gypsy direction and very authentic to the designers vibe and lifestyle.

Hakan Yilidrim is one of the most developed and relevant Turkish designers. I fell in love with his work when I saw, the self-taught designer’s, SS 2010 collection, vibrant in its palette and architectural construction. It was probably the show I was most eager to see in Istanbul FW 2010 Fashion Week, but the result was not as exciting as anticipated. The black deterred my interest. Although the detailing was still very intricate it was hard to read in black.
